How to Use Proofreader
Proofread Word and LaTeX manuscripts with a clean corrected copy and a tracked-changes version
Step-by-Step Guide
Upload Your Manuscript
Add a Word document (.docx) or your LaTeX source (.tex), up to 25MB per file. A LaTeX project can span several .tex files - upload them all together so cross-file references resolve. Your reference list and appendices are skipped automatically, so you can submit the full document.
Choose Your Polishing Level
Pick Low for grammar, spelling, and punctuation only (minimal touch), or High for strong, controlled polishing to publication standard.
Decide on Tracked Changes
Keep Tracked Changes on to receive a highlighted review copy alongside the clean corrected document, or turn it off if you only need the corrected copy. Tracked changes are ideal when a supervisor or co-author needs to see every edit.
Proofread Section by Section
Start the proofread and let the tool work through your manuscript one section at a time, polishing grammar, clarity, and academic tone. You can move to other tools while it runs - you'll be notified when it's ready.
Review & Download
Explore every edit in the Revision Studio, grouped by section and colour-coded by category (grammar, word choice, academic tone, and more). Switch between List and Focus views, step through changes with the arrow keys, export the full change log as CSV, and download your corrected and tracked-changes documents.
Tips & Best Practices
- Choose Low when you only want mechanical fixes; pick High when preparing for submission
- Upload every .tex file of a LaTeX project together so shared references and inputs resolve correctly
- Keep tracked changes on if a co-author or supervisor needs to review each edit before you accept it
- Use Focus view and the ← → keys to step through edits one at a time for careful review
- Filter by category or section to concentrate on the changes that matter most to you
- Export the CSV change log to keep a record of every correction outside the app
