Overview

Chat with research papers, figures, and open questions

Assistemia's General AI Assistant is a Premium research chat workspace for questions that do not fit a single search box. You can ask about methodology, literature, academic writing, or new ideas, and attach one PDF or image to a message when the question concerns a specific paper, chart, figure, or diagram. Replies appear in the conversation as formatted text, with headings, lists, and code blocks where they help. Each conversation is saved to your chat history, so you can reopen it later and keep going. Use it to chat with research papers you already have, to get a first explanation of a dense figure, or to think through a question before you search with a dedicated module. Treat each answer as a starting point and confirm facts, quotations, and citations in the original source.

Capabilities

PDF questions, figure explanations, and research Q&A

01

A PDF research assistant for your papers

Attach a PDF to a message and ask what you need from it: a summary of the methodology, the main findings, or how the authors define a key term. The file is sent with the message it is attached to, so name the section or concept you care about to keep the reply focused on that part of the paper.

02

Explanations of charts, figures, and diagrams

Attach a PNG, JPG, or WebP image, such as a chart exported from a paper, a figure from your own draft, or a diagram from course material, and ask the assistant to explain what it shows. You can ask about the variables, labels, or the trend a caption describes. Read exact values from the original image yourself before you report them.

03

Research Q&A with saved history

Ask about research design, literature, academic writing, or brainstorming without attaching anything. Each chat is listed in the Chat History panel with its title, date, and the number of messages you sent, so you can reopen a conversation later, continue asking, or delete it when you no longer need it. New Chat starts a clean conversation for a different topic.

How it works

From a question or a file to a saved conversation

  1. 01

    Prepare a focused question

Write the question you want answered. If it concerns a specific source, attach one PDF or image with the paperclip button or drag it onto the chat. Accepted formats are PDF, PNG, JPG, and WebP, up to 20 MB per file.

  2. 02

Send it and read the reply

Press Enter or the send button; Shift+Enter adds a new line. A typing indicator shows while the assistant works, then the reply appears in the conversation as formatted text. If a request fails, the chat shows a short notice that it cannot answer right now.

  3. 03

Check, refine, and come back later

Compare the answer with the PDF or figure, then ask a more specific question. Restate the context it needs and attach the file again when it depends on the paper. The conversation stays in your chat history, and the tutorial explains each control in more detail.

Inputs, outputs & coverage

What you can send, and where the assistant stops

The assistant is built for discussion and explanation, not as a source you can cite. These are the boundaries of the current workspace.

Read our privacy policy
Input
Typed questions, with or without one attachment per message: a PDF, PNG, JPG, or WebP file up to 20 MB. A file can also be sent without any text.
Output
A written reply in the chat, formatted with headings, lists, and code where useful. Conversations are kept in your chat history; the workspace has no chat export or download button.
Coverage
General research topics such as methodology, literature, writing, and brainstorming, plus the content of the file you attach. For structured searches of articles or datasets, use the dedicated modules.
Limitations
An attachment applies to the message it is sent with, so attach it again when a later question depends on it. Reopened chats show the written messages and replies, not the attached files. Replies can be incomplete or wrong; verify facts, quotations, and references in the original source.

Contact our team
Which files can I attach to a research chat?

You can attach one file per message: a PDF, or an image in PNG, JPG/JPEG, or WebP format, up to 20 MB. Other file types and larger files are rejected with a notice. Use the paperclip button or drag the file onto the chat. A PDF suits questions about a paper's methods, results, or terminology; an image suits charts, figures, and diagrams. Because a file travels with the message it is attached to, attach it again if a later question needs it.

Can I chat with a PDF for research on the Free plan?

No. The General AI Assistant, including PDF and image attachments, is part of Premium. A Free account that opens the workspace sees an upgrade screen with a link to Pricing. Free accounts can still use the tutorial assistant on the Docs pages, which answers questions about Assistemia's tools. Current Premium prices and billing options are on the Pricing page.

Can I trust AI answers about a research paper?

Use them as a starting point, not as a source. Replies are generated text and can misread a passage, miss context, or state something the paper does not support. Before you rely on an answer, find the matching passage, table, or figure in the original PDF or image, and confirm any reference in a database or on the publisher's page. Asking which section an answer draws on can help you find the passage, but confirm that the passage says what the reply claims. Do not cite the assistant itself as evidence.

How is it different from the tutorial assistant in Docs?

The tutorial assistant is a small chat window on the Docs pages and some other Assistemia pages that answers questions about Assistemia's tools and how to use them. It takes typed questions only, is open to signed-in Free accounts, and has session and message limits on the Free plan. The General AI Assistant is a separate Premium workspace for your research itself: open-ended questions, file attachments, and a Chat History panel for reopening past conversations.
